Most people infected with JCV are asymptomatic. In those receiving immunosuppressive therapies e.g., transplant recipients, and in the immunocompromised, JCV can cause progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a neurodegenerative disease that is often fatal.1 The MGB Alert JCV primer mix ASR§ amplifies, while the probe mix ASR detects, nucleic acids within the VP1 gene in JC virus.
