This is the simplest solid sample device and is ideal for student use, where very low cost is an important factor. Two highly polished bolts turn against each other in a steel cylinder. The pellet is formed right inside thecylinder which becomes the sample holder. Once formed, the pellet cannot be removed from the cylinder without being destroyed.
