Anaerobic Blood Agar Base is recommended for isolation and cultivation of Group A and Group B Streptococci from throat cultures and other clinical samples.
- Appearance: Cream to yellow homogeneous free flowing powder
- Gelling: firm, comparable with 1.4% agar gel
- Colour and clarity of prepared medium: basal medium : yellow coloured clear to slightly opalescent gel. After addition of 5%v/v sterile defibrinated blood : cherry red coloured opaque gel forms in petri plates
- Reaction of 4.0% w/v aqueous solution at 25°C. pH : 7.3±0.2
- Cultural characteristics observed in presence of 5-10% CO2 with added 5%v/v sterile defibrinated sheep blood and neomycin supplement (FD149), after an incubation at 35-37°C for 24-48 hours
