MacConkey Sorbitol HiVeg™ agar (Sorbitol HiVeg™ Agar)is recommended for isolation of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli O157: H7. E.coli O157:H7 grows as colorless colonies on this medium wile most of the faecal flora that ferment sorbitol appear as pink colored colonies. This medium is prepared by completely replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risks associated with animal peptone.

- Appearance of Powder: Pinkish beige colored, homogeneous, free flowing powder
- Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.35% Agar gel
- Color and Clarity: Purplish red colored, clear to slightly opalescent gel forms in petri plates
- Reaction: Reaction of 5.0% w/v aqueous solution is pH 7.1 ± 0.2 at 25 deg C
