Limonite, also known as goethite, is an iron hydroxide mineral, a chemistry that is apparent from the mineral's rusty ochre color. This mineral was used extensively as pigment for yellow, red, and orange dyes, going back all the way to Neolithic cave paintings. In a classroom, limonite is useful for lessons in mineral chemistry and identification. Each samples comes in a labeled plastic bag and measures approximately 1" in length. Pack of 12 samples.
